In 2023, Hecter Agri Tech partnered with the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC–IGAD) to establish demonstration farms in the Baladweyne District. These farms were designed as practical learning hubs where local farmers could observe and apply innovative farming practices and climate-smart solutions tailored to the region’s unique challenges.
The initiative introduced techniques such as improved irrigation, drought-resistant crops, integrated pest management, and soil conservation methods. Farmers were given the opportunity to see these methods in action, compare them with traditional practices, and receive hands-on guidance on how to adopt them in their own fields.
Beyond improving individual farm productivity, the demonstration farms served as community-wide knowledge centers, fostering peer-to-peer learning and promoting sustainable agricultural practices that enhance resilience to climate change. This collaboration with ICPAC–IGAD reinforced Hecter Agri Tech’s role in advancing evidence-based solutions and building farmer capacity for long-term food security in Somalia.
